Parco Villa Durazzo Pallavicini e Museo di Archeologia Ligure

Do you know the Park of Villa Durazzo Pallavicini in Genoa Pegli?
Considered one of Italy's most fascinating historic gardens, Villa Durazzo Pallavicini Park is a true journey between nature, romantic scenery, and striking architecture.
In 2017 it was elected Most Beautiful Park in Italy in the "The Most Beautiful Park" competition.
Strolling through the park, you find yourself immersed in a place suspended in time, among maritime pine forests, small lakes, waterfalls, historic camellias, fountains and small scenic buildings that seem to have come out of a romantic tale.

A grand outdoor theater

The park was designed between 1840 and 1846 by architect Michele Canzio as a true theatrical scenic route.
The visit is therefore not a simple walk, but an itinerary constructed as a multi-act play, with sets, perspectives and visual games designed to continually amaze the visitor.

Among rare plants and botanical collections, the route passes through lakes and water features, caves and waterfalls, temples and romantic architecture. It is rich in panoramic views, scenic settings and perspective illusions.
One of the most special aspects of the park is precisely the way spaces are used to create awe, alternating between more spectacular settings and intimate areas immersed in nature.

Within the park there is also one of the most important historical camellia groves in Italy, with numerous ancient varieties of camellias that make the visit particularly striking, especially between late winter and spring.

Museum of Ligurian Archaeology

Also located within the Villa Durazzo Pallavicini complex is the Museum of Ligurian Archaeology, a very interesting stop to combine with a visit to the park, especially with curious children and history buffs.

The museum is housed in the historic nineteenth-century villa and tells the oldest history of Liguria through archaeological finds, everyday objects, reconstructions, and testimonies that accompany visitors from prehistoric times to Roman

Among the most fascinating sections for families are those devoted to ancient Liguri, prehistoric caves, and artifacts from archaeological excavations in the area.

Children are often impressed by stone tools, ancient jewelry, Roman amphorae, and reconstructions that help them imagine how people lived thousands of years ago.

Practical Information

The Villa Durazzo Pallavicini Park is located in the Pegli neighborhood in the western part of Genoa.
Compared to the Porto Antico, where the Aquarium and many of the city's main tourist attractions are located, the park is more decentralized but easily accessible by car or train.

From Genoa Pegli station, the entrance to the park can be easily reached on foot in a few minutes.
To visit it at leisure, it is recommended to devote at least half a day, especially if you also want to combine the museum or a break in the green areas.
